2019 Figurativas Competition

I am very happy that for the second time one of paintings has travelled to Barcelona for the Figurativas painting competition. You can read about the event and download past catalogues here. One’s entry to the competition begins with the submission of a single digital image. From the international entries a shortlist of is invited to travel to the museum to appear before the jury who will choose the works for a final exhibition. The interesting thing about this event is that the jury is recorded and you can also see edited video of past juries on their youtube channel here.

The piece I submitted this time is a portrait of my nephew Fisher Hall. It is titled Millennial; We Got This and it appeared also in the last Kingston Prize exhibition here in Canada. You can read about this event here.

This year’s Figurativas jury includes Antonio López García, Daniel Graves, Odd Nerdrum, Tomás Paredes, Jose Enrique González, Jose Manuel Infiesta . They will meet June 27-30th to view all of the work and so I will update you then on the results. My work will either be travelling back to Canada or will stay at the MEAM for the fall.

The work is oil on canvas and 30 x 40”. I have more photos of the process on my Instagram page where I post frequently about my art studio and studies. If you are interested you can enjoy these here.

Thank you for taking the time to read today, more soon!
